Recent archeological investigations prove that
the Donetsk region belongs to those regions of Ukraine, which have been
inhabited in antiquity, beginning from the Paleolithic epoch. Later on, mostly
nomads, i.e. the Scythians, the Sarmats, the Pechenegs, the Polovetsky people,
etc. The researchers being the professionals in the history of the area proved
that the events described in the „Song of Igor's Campaign“ took place
on the territory of our region.
