There are 22 museums functioning in the Donetsk region. The state museum of
history of industry of Ukraine is under construction. The funds of the museums contain over 321 thousand exhibits.
The museums regularly receive new objects to be exhibited. One of the priority trends of the activities of the
museums is their research work. The researches are traditionally held in close contact with other institutions
and organizations of the region, of Ukraine and Russia.
The staff workers of the museums hold ethnographic, archeological and natural
researches. The results of these investigations are creation of museums, opening of new exhibitions, publications
of books, catalogues and booklets, development of routes of walking and auto excursions.
The museums of the region take an active part in the international scientific
conferences.
Using the results of the researches and exhibitions the museums of the region
introduce new forms of educational and upbringing work: cycles of museum educational programs for school-children,
museum holidays, sittings of the club "What? Where? When?", educational and developing games,
"Ecological brain-ring", the game trip about the museums.
The museums hold lectures, organize clubs to the interests, etc.
Annually the museums are attended by 859 thousand persons, 65 % of them being
school-children and students.
The workers of the museums of the region often participate in trainings and seminars
in museums of other regions of Ukraine.
